Fair! I only looked at energy infrastructures but it applies to a lot. There's also this example of the Seattle wealthy neighborhood that petitioned (and succeeded) to get helicopters transporting sick children to the children hospital land miles away so they don't fly over their houses. The noise was an inconvenience to them.

You analysis hits the nail on its head. Society wants things but without the inconvenience of dealing with those things.

To petition against a service that saves lives, though, is a new low standard.

Next thing they'd complain about hospitals, I suppose no one wants sick people around.
